Vimutti Valley is being designed one facility at a time. Each facility is issued as its own design package — a brief that states what the space must do, what has already been decided and why, and what is still open, together with the drawings that go with it. Packages are separate on purpose: each can go to the consultant who needs it, and each can be revised without disturbing the others.
Every condition the client has stated, across every package, with its status. Each drawing is checked against this list rather than against the previous drawing.
The whole plot — 5 rai 83 tarang wa — at one scale. Two walls, the road that dead-ends 57 m in, the café and its stone court, the office and waiting room, the turning drive at the swept-path minimum, the kitchen and the dining hall. The quiet zone is left empty on purpose.
The building on the canal, outside the inner wall, that the public may enter. Kitchen, brewing area, one ground-floor toilet, and the communal table the café is built around. Upstairs, two tatami rooms that slide into one.
One room seating 40 practitioners on the floor and 9 monks on a raised stage, with a wall-mounted principal Buddha image and a drop-down projection screen. Includes an AV control room and a cushion store.
The remaining facilities at Vimutti Valley will be issued here, each in the same format, as the brief for it is settled. Nothing is published until its requirements and its fixed decisions have been written down — a package with an unresolved brief only wastes the consultant's time.
